I recently took part in the National Open Textile Exhibition hosted by the Funky Aardvark in Chester. I was very happy to receive third place.

I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be accepted as a licentiate member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
"Founded in 1887 as the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society with Walter Crane, William Morris and William de Morgan amongst our distinguished forbears, we believe that we continue to uphold the values that they established, giving a voice to beautiful and challenging work that is different from the traditional Fine Arts. William Morris was president from 1891-1896. As the largest and oldest multi-disciplinary Society in Britain we are proud to have as members some of the UK’s finest, most exciting and respected designer makers." I'm very excited about this new development in my career...... click on the image below for more details.
Well, It's almost that time of year again! Cannot believe that a whole year has gone by and it's soon time for the Wirral Open Studios Tour. I'm thrilled to be taking part again this year along with over sixty other artists across the Wirral. I met some wonderful people last year and I am really looking forward to opening up my studio and getting the opportunity to meet even more fantastic people again this year.
If you are free on Saturday June 10th and/or Sunday June 11th please come along and say hello. I will be showing a selection of my original textile artwork as well as limited edition giclee prints and cards. You can also explore my large collection of sketchbooks and drawings where you can see my design process and methods of working. Everyone is welcome and there is plenty of parking. So, I've made a start at turning my 'Carousel' designs into textile pieces. It's always the frightening part of the process as there is always a risk that converting drawings into textiles doesn't always translate well, but I'm pleased with how these have worked out, there were a few problems to iron out but I got there in the end. One down three more of this size to go and in time another two large pieces..... This piece is title 'Dizzy Dahlias' and measures 34x31cm Having recently sold all of the original artworks for my 'Season's series I've had to hit the drawing board and create a new collection of work for other exhibitions planned for this year.
This series is called 'Carousel' and all being well they will be ready for my exhibition at Ness Gardens in Burton in August. This series explores nature’s conflicts between reoccurring patterns and organic forms, juxtaposing geometry with irregularity. Just got to figure out what colours I'm going to do them!!!! If you are in the area, please pop along and see my 'Collection of Rarities' Exhibition at the Willow Gallery in Oswestry from March 6th - April 1st. Its a great gallery with a lovely coffee shop and scrummy cakes!!! So, here it is, finally put together my little "micro-blooms" into another 3d piece for my 'Collection of Rarities' exhibition at the Willow Gallery in Oswestry starting the 6th of March.
I've been working on some pieces for my exhibition titled 'A Collection of Rarities', which will take place at The Willow Gallery in Oswestry from 6th March until 1st of April. I still have a couple more 3D pieces to finish (I will add images as and when I finish them). All of the pieces have been influenced by botanical illustrations of the late nineteenth century and inspired by the Victorian fascination of decorative arts and the preservation and presentation of nature under glass domes and within cabinets and cases. I have created my own 'Collection of Rarities' as part of an ongoing theme incorporating my “micro-blooms”, a combination of micro-organisms and floral images, which can be found present in all of my work. Just taken part in this years Chester Arts Fair, it was a fantastic experience and met some great people. Its always good to be around like minded people that, for a large percentage of their time shut themselves away in their studios being creative. It is re-affirming and all the positive feedback gives you the motivation and determination to carry on. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their help and support and to all the people I spoke to over the weekend for their wonderful comments and words of encouragement. |
